The green route around Saltwells woods is known as the Doulton Trail.

This trail is 1.5km (1 mile) long and follows generally good surfaced paths with gentle gradients and one long, steep flight of steps. The trail gives you the opportunity to spot more of the sculptures around the wood- look out for the dog, toad, dragon, butterfly totem, bat, hedgehog, owl, the animal totem and from the Geotrail- the massive mosses frond and the Geological core.

The trail is so named as it skirts the edge of Doulton’s claypit (the ‘marl hole’) where clay, marl and coal was extracted by the Doulton Company in the 19th Century- for more information on this visit the history section of the website.

To follow this trail, once again start at the Four Elements sculpture along the main track from the car park, then follow the green arrows.

Happy walking!
