Saltwells Nature Reserve keeps growing!

There was a hive of activity at Saltwells Nature Reserve on Sunday 2nd February as our usual Sunday volunteers, led by the wardens, were joined by volunteers from Groundwork, Birmingham University and Razza Rats, creating a supergroup of almost 50 volunteers. Altogether the group planted 350 trees supplied by Dudley MBC and a grant awarded by TCV, The Conservation Volunteers, along with 600 snowdrops donated by the senior warden of the Reserve and violets donated by the Friends group. Paths and steps were cleared and invasive brambles removed to allow the more delicate woodland plants to thrive.

The trees included a mixture of hazel, wild pear, crab apple, rowan, bird cherry, blackthorn and hornbeam, all of which will bear blossom, fruit, berries or features beneficial to the birds, butterflies and bees in the future.

A huge thank you goes out to all those who helped.
